In den letzten Wochen ist dort viel Schnee gefallen und die Temperaturen lagen bei -10\u00b0C. Jetzt gab es einen Wetterumschwung (+10\u00b0C) und wir sind mit unserem Leihwagen von Enterprise spontan aufgebrochen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped Allerdings f\u00e4hrt es sich in den USA sehr entspannt. Alle fahren sehr zur\u00fcckhaltend, es gibt kaum Raser und Dr\u00e4ngler. Die H\u00f6chstgeschwindigkeit ist meist auf 65-70 Meilen (ca. 120km\/h) begrenzt. Zu Beginn haben wir uns daran strikt gehalten, wollten keine Bekanntschaft mit einem Sheriff machen. Alle sind aber mind. 10 Meilen schneller gefahren und dies hat Jochen zumindest auf den Interstats dann auch gemacht. Hin sind wir \u00fcber die K\u00fcstenstra\u00dfen gefahren, zur\u00fcck wollen wir \u00fcber die Blue Mountains fahren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vor dem langen Weg machen wir erst mal ganz in der N\u00e4he von Brunswick halt. Das ist Saint Simons Island &#8211; immer Sommer ein angesagter Badeort. Die Altstadt gilt mit ihren begr\u00fcnten Pl\u00e4tzen und vielen restaurierten H\u00e4usern heute als eine der sch\u00f6nsten der USA. Diese Stadt wurde streng geplant angelegt. Jeder Siedler bekam exakt dieselbe Gr\u00f6\u00dfe an Land zugeteilt. Das schwarze Auto war der erste Polizeiwagen der Stadt. Sch\u00f6n sind in den USA auch die Fahrzeuge der Feuerwehr, hier in Charleston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-5 is-layout-flex Friedhof halt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arlington National Cemetery bei Washington, D.C. ist einer von 135 Nationalfriedh\u00f6fen der USA. Hier gibt es \u00fcber 420.000 Gr\u00e4ber. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vor kurzem wurde hier die Richterin Joan Ruth Bader Ginsburg (* 15. M\u00e4rz 1933 in Brooklyn, New York City, \u2020 18. September 2020 in Washington, D.C.) beigesetzt, die seit 1993 Beisitzende Richterin am Supreme Court der Vereinigten Staaten war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Auf diesem Friedhof ist auch das Grab von John F. Kennedy und seiner Familie und das Grab des unbekannten Soldaten. Hier kann man im Halbstundentakt die Wachabl\u00f6sung &#8211; \u201eChanging of the Guards\u201c beobachten. Angeblich sollen die Soldaten beim Vormarsch darum gewetteifert haben, wer als erster dieses Grafitto angebracht hat. F\u00fcr die nachr\u00fcckenden Soldaten war es dann ein gutes Zeichen das schon Amerikaner hier gewesen waren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Der Spruch und das Grafitto sollen von dem Schiffsinspektor <em>James J. Kilroy<\/em> stammen. Seine Aufgabe war es, die Arbeiter zu kontrollieren und zu pr\u00fcfen, wie viele  Nieten sie eingeschlagen hatten. Damit er nichts doppelt z\u00e4hlte und um seinen Vorgesetzten zu zeigen, dass er seine Arbeit auch machte, begann er, den Rumpf der Schiffe, welche er bereits kontrolliert hatte, mit \u201eKilroy was here\u201c zu versehen. Damit es deutlich zu sehen war, benutzte Kilroy einen gelben Stift.  Als ein Schiff dann f\u00fcr einen Milit\u00e4reinsatz genutzt wurde und Truppen transportieren sollte, verstanden die Soldaten den scheinbar deplatzierten Satz nicht. Es steht unweit des Lincoln Memorials vor dem er am 28. Nicht wegen der besonderen Bedeutung der Stadt,  sondern weil uns ein befreundeter Segler erz\u00e4hlt hat, das man weiter n\u00f6rdlich leichter eine Verl\u00e4ngerung des alten oder gleich ein neues Cruising Permit (Erlaubnis in USA-Gew\u00e4ssern zu segeln) bekommt. Unser altes Cruising Permit von 2020 war abgelaufen und ein neues bekommt man eigentlich erst dann, wenn man f\u00fcr 14 Tage die USA verlassen hat. Aber nachdem wir von der ersten CBP Stelle (Customs and Border Protection) \u00fcber die zweite Adresse am Flughafen endlich am  Cruising Terminal angelangt waren, wurde uns dasselbe gesagt wie hier in Brunswick. Unser Hotel liegt 37. Stra\u00dfe Ecke 8. Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also haben wir es nahe zu den Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten und laufen auch gleich am ersten Abend los. Obwohl wegen der Pandemie kaum Touristen aus \u00dcbersee da sind, finden wir die  Stadt auch so schon voll genug. Die Extreme &#8211; Reichtum und bittere Armut liegen hier ganz nahe zusammen. Biegt man von einer der glitzernden Stra\u00dfen ab, sieht man schon ein paar Meter weiter ganz heruntergekommene Menschen, meist Farbige. Wir hatten geplant auf der R\u00fcckfahrt die Blue Mountains  in Virginia zu besuchen &#8211; schon um den sch\u00f6nen Song &#8218;Country Roads&#8216; dort zu singen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Almost heaven, West Virginia<br \/>Blue Ridge Mountains, Shanandoa River<br \/>Life is old there, older than the trees<br \/>Younger than the mountains, growing like a breeze\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aber bei diesem Wetter h\u00e4tten wir sowieso nichts gesehen und an wandern war gar nicht zu denken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So haben wir entschieden direkt zur\u00fcck zum Boot zu fahren.
